Yoshifumi Watanabe has over 26-years of investment banking experience. Yoshifumi joined UBS Securities Japan Co., Tld. in August 2010, and was the Joint Head of Investment Banking Department, Japan and the Head of Financial Institutions Group, Japan. Prior to joining UBS, Yoshifumi started his career in the Financial Institutions Group in Salomon Brothers Asia Limited Tokyo Branch (currently Citigroup Global Markets Japan Inc.) in 1988, and became the Head of Financial Institutions Group of Investment Banking Department in December 2004. He executed numerous transactions, including underwriting business and advisory business for Japanese financial institutions and corporate. He was involved in a wide range of transactions especially for Japanese banks, and gained long-standing relationships with the regulatory authorities, banks, and insurance companies.
Key transactions include: the execution of IPO deals such as Shinsei Bank in 2004, Tokyo Star Bank in 2005, Aozora Bank in 2006, and Seven Bank in 2008. He also advised JPY530bn of public offering by Mizuho Financial group in 2005, JPY400bn of secondary offering of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group in 2006, JPY98bn of secondary offering of Mitsui Trust Holding in 2006, JPY77bn of secondary offering of Chuo Mitsui Trust Holdings in 2008, and JPY890bn of public offering by Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group in 2010. Other key transactions include advising Citigroup about their acquisition and divestiture of financial institutions in Japan from 2005 to 2009 and also advised Sumitomo Mitsui Insurance Group on its business integration with Aioi Insurance and Nissay Dowa in 2009.
